County Council Declines Edgecumbe Building Permit
At its ordinary meeting yesterday the Whakatane County Council declined an application from Mr S. M. '.Hawkins for permission to erect a ■ wooden addition 20ft .by 13ft to the kfront of the billiard saloon premises tat Edgecumbe for the establishment <>of a shoe shop incorporating repair -services. The site Jies within the brick area, ' but the applicant appealed to the to -relax the by-law, as he -would otherwise be faced with the -prospect of dropping commitments already made in connection with vthe new .business.. The Rehabilitation Officer, Rotorua, wrote advising that the Whakatane Rehabilitation Committee
■ was opposed ;to Mr Hawkins’s appli- , -cation on the ground that an ex-ser-■viceman, now completing training at ..Auckland as a -saddler' and boot repairer, wanted to set up in business ..at Edgecumbe.
