What’s In A Name..?
When you become a, film star, even your own name ceases to belong to you. It’s n& secret that half the screen stars appear under as-, sumed names. Every now and then, however, courageous players stand firmly against any change. Googie Withers is one. Nothing on earth? can persuade her to chance that “Googie”, despite all the efforts of various film chiefs and critics. Latest to develop name trouble is 19-year-old newcomer Patricia Plunkett, star of the stage play, “Pick-up Girl,” who plays a leading part in Michael Balcon’s “It Always Rains on Sunday.” She is playing with' Googie in the picture, so she’ll undoubtedly receive support in her * battle. Pat Plunkett is being assailed from all sides with suggestions that “Plunkett” is unsuitable for an actress. t ßut she’s taking a strong stand. “It’s a good old Irish name,” she asserts, “and it’s been good enough for my family for generations.” So that’s that!
