AWAKERI FLOWER SHOW HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL
Numerous Entries Make Up Display Flower decked tables laden with beautiful blooms were the centre of attraction, at the Spring Flower display held by the Awakeri Women’s Division of Federated Farmers in the Awakeri Hall. Entries in the decorative classes were numerous, also for the best blooms, which brought forth some fine exhibition types. The show was well patronised, visitors being present from Whakatane and the surrounding districts. Brisk trade was done at the produce stall, and competitions kept everyone interested. A very appetising afternoon tea was served, after which the President, Mrs Haultain, took the opportunity to give a hearty “thank you” to everyone sent for co-operating to make the afternoon such a grand success. ' Prize-winners were:— Decorated Coupe: Mrs Cooper 1, Mrs N. McDonald 2. Decorated Bowl: Mrs F. Matchitt 1, Miss B. McDonald 2, Mrs Allan 3. Vase 3 Mixed Blooms: Mrs L. Carter 1 and 3, Mrs Matchitt 2. Sponge Sandwich: Mrs Matchitt 1, Mrs D. McDonald 2. Nail Driving: Mrs McQueen 1. Carpet Golf: Mrs Rust j. Taipo: Mrs Haultain 1. Bobs: Mrs Haultain 1. Monthly Competitions Fruit: Mrs N. McDonald 1, Mrs Barr 2, Mrs McGougan 3. Flower: Mrs- L. jCarter 1, Mrs D. McDonald 2, Mrs Rae 3. Vegetable: Mrs F. Matchitt 1, Mrs Roberts 2, Mrs D., McDonald 3. Other competitions: Dinner, C. McDonald; cake, J 7 Caldwell; chocolates, Robert Allan 1, E. Gardner 2; socks, Peter Gibbons.
