For, the first time all British policemen are 'to wear open necked jackets with collars and ties. Shirts and collars of Royal Air Force blue ere to be worn with the new type tunics—ties will be black. , The new order follows acceptance of a report on police uniforms made by a special Government committee. Another recommendation made by the committee was' that flat caps should replace the traditional fcelmet for “certain duties”—the helmet is likely to be in general use for some time to come, however. For a start the open tunics will only be worn in summer.
