June Allyson And Van Johnson, Writers

Latest collaborators on an original screen story are June Allyson and Van Johnson, Inspired by Gene Kelly’s success in selling a story (“Take Me Out to The Ball Game”) to the studio, the two M-G-M stars have their heads together working on a screen play based on their early days in the theatre. The story will contain backstage anecdotes of June’s experiences as an understudy in “Panama Hattie,” and Van’s stint in the chorus of “Pal Joey.” During this time the pair were friends, appeared in adjoining theatres. As planned by the authors, the story will also deal with the private lives of youngsters starting out in New York show business. What they do, where they go . . . with the carefully budgeted automat meals a point of, particular emphasis. No title has been decided upon, although June has been seeking suggestions from her friends on the set of her film,, “The Three Musketeers.” Thus far the title, “Footlights and Fancy,” has the majority of votes.
