Lawn Cemetery
Whakatane Borough Councillors are very impressed with the idea of a “lawn cemetery”, and v the Council contemplates enacting by-laws to have the Hill Cemetery conducted on those lines. The idea is that, instead of having the old-type tombstones of all sizes and designs, and the old variety railings and fences around the graves, the new-style cemetery has flat memorial tablets only. The whole area could then be planned as a place of harmonious beauty.
