Could White Island Fertiliser Plant Be Revived?

The former White Island fertiliser works in which the late Hon. C. E. ' Macmillan was greatly interested, was recalled at the monthly meeting ■of the Tauranga branch of Federated Farmers (Auckland Province). Mr C. F. Riddle claimed that the production of sulphur at the island would be a payable proposition. The possibility of lower costs in the manufacture of superphosphate had 7 been referred to. Mr M. R. Munro stated that .the island had been sold for £l5O to a Mr Grant, of Auckland. There were guano deposits available. Reference was made by Mr A. W. "Strugnell to the combined fertiliser and insecticide known at White Island Product No. 1 which had prov--etd highly satisfactory in the case «©£ turnip crops.
