Gay Scene At Junior National Party Club's Ball
A gay scene was presented at the Winter Show Building on Thursday night, when the third Annual Ball, of the Whakatane Junior National Party was held. The hall was tastefully and colourfully decorated with fernery, streamers and balloons. The orchestra was Freddie Burt's at its usual best. Although the attendance was not as large as had been anticipated, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening. It was interesting to note how very few “New Look” styles there were, but. the women’s frocks were bright, and made colourful splashes against the greenery. Thanks are due to the Whakatane and Ohope Club Committees (Whakatane, Miss North, Mrs Gartshore and Mrs Sullivan, and Ohope Mrs Norma Griffiths) who put a lot of work and thought into the preparing of the supper, decorations, and the hundred and one other things that go to make a successful dance. Supper was beautiful—turkey, pork, trifles, fruit salad, and one corner of the hall in particular was very popular, being set aside as a ‘claret cup’ bar.
