BRANCH OPPOSES R.S.A. ATTITUDE TO CONSCRIPTION
The Brunner branch of the R.S.A., -at its annual meeting, passed these remits unanimously:— (1) “Thait this branch takes exception to the action of the national executive in recommending, to the ' Government that conscription should be brought into force. This action is considered arbitrary, and should not have been taken without consultation with the rank and file of the organisation.” Members expressed the view that the Government was in the best position to know the defence re- • quirements, and 'that the R.S.A. should concentrate its efforts upon : maintaining peace rather than creat- ' ing armies. (2) “That Khe branch views with concern resolutions of a political nature which have been passed by • certain sections of the association. It is their opini®n that these resolutions are unconstitutional, and, if continued, would have the effect of turning the organisation into a ■ straightforward political body. If discrimination is to be exercised against persons *f any political party, it is only just that all political parties should be objected to.”
