Refuses To Retire
Jane Darwell, the well-known Academy Award actress, celebrated her 67th birthday and her 59th year in show business while on location in Dunsmuir, California with EagleLion’s cinecolour production of “The Red Stallion.” Miss Darwell’s birthday dinner was highlighted by fresh rainbow trout which was caught by Bud Wastmorej make-up director. Afterwards, the entire company of 100 sang “Happy Birthday”- grouped round a tremendous cake, presented to the veteran actress by the Dunsmuir 'Hotel. Questioned about retiring from the screen, Miss Darwell said, “Why, the way I feel, I’ll be acting twenty years from now. You can’t put an old war-horse like me out to pasture and make me like it!”
