P. Burke, Ex-Rangitaiki Rep., Now Playing In Taranaki Pack

The ill wind that caused Walter Bell, big Taranaki lock forward to hang up his boots for the rest of the season because of injury, brought good fortune to 20-year-old P. Burke, Stratford, who replaced Bell in the Taranaki pack. Burke, well-known in this district, is no newcomer to representative Rugby for in spite of his youth he has a notable record. His Rugby career really began when he played for the Tauranga High School team which won the district championship. He played senior grade first two years ago, playing for the Rangitaiki representative side. He made his debut as a provincial representative player the same year; playing for Bay of Plenty at the age of 18 years. Last year he played for Marist Brothers, Auckland, and the Auckland B representative team in all its games. Misfortune was encountered by Burke at the beginning of this season for in the match between the Auckland and Wellington Marist teams he cracked two ribs and was kept out of the game for a time when he first arrived in Taranaki. He is a brother of Miss J. Burke, the youthful tennis player who has won a Dominion-wide reputation as one of the most promising of New Zealand’s younger players.
