Are Retrospective Increases Fair?
In receipt of an intimation from the Pukeroa Sanatorium Committee that patients’ fees had been increased by 6/- a day to 24/-, retrospective to April 1 last, the Bay of Plenty Hospital Board yesterday decided to protest against the widespread tendency to make such cost adjustments retrospective. Mr L. Buddie said the thing was becoming a habit with those authorising ■ increases, and he felt it was both inconsiderate and unbusinesslike to date such an adjustment back after the Board had worked out and approved its budget. Mr C. A. Suckling agreed, and moved that the Board protest against that method of doing things. Members concurred, unanimously.
