Hospital Statistics During August there were 154 patients admitted to the Whakatane district hospital and 147 discharged. There were 9 deaths and 81 births. Eight major and 56 minor operations were performed. V High School. Card Evening The card evening run by the Whakatane Parent-Teacher Assoc. L.-on, on Monday evening was well-at-tended and enjoyable. Mrs O. Bridger and Mr E. Derecourt were the prize winners and Mrs Mclver and Mr Rutherford received the Booby awards. Whakatane Ambulance Service Assurance has been received by the Bay of Plenty Hospital Board from the Department of Health that the proposed ambulance benefits are not likely to interfere with the Board’s present arrangement with the local St John Ambulance Brigade. Members of the Board expressed satisfaction with that information. Cyclists Three Abreast The danger of cyclists riding three abreast was emphasised in the Magistrate’s Court, Wanganui, recently, when there were several prosecutions for -this class of offence. The charge was “travelling on the right of more than one cycle proceeding in the same direction,” and a fine of £l, costs 10s, was imposed in each case. “This is a practice which I consider very dangerous,” said Mr J. Salmon, S.M., when the first case was. called.
