EDGECUMBE MOVE TO RE-ESTABLISH ST JOHN BRIGADE
Progressive Assn. Sponsoring Drive
New members for the Kangitaiki Division St John Ambulance Brigade are Urgently required. There is a very great need for a full Division in that district. Apart from the many sports fixtures, there are. quite a number of heavy industries, where the services of trained men may be required at any time. During the year ending August, 1947, the Division of five men attended 62 public duties, and treated over 280 cases. It was due to lack of members and also lack of public support that the Division went into recess during the last year. Recently the Edgecumbe' Progressive Association appointed a sub-com-mittee to help to get the Division re-established, and this committee held its -first meeting with members of the St John Division to discuss ways and means last week. Much useful and interesting information was given by the Superintendent, Mr Massey. After a great deal of general discussion the subcommittee members decided to make an appeal for new members for the St John Division, and to arrange to meet representatives from all local sports bodies and industries with the view of obtaining assistance in the recruiting campaign to be launched. Messrs J. Spiers, Edgecumbe, and A. Massey, Te Teko, are the recruiting officers, but volunteers may leave their names with any member of the Edgecumbe Progressive Association.
