Keeps One Rule , Breaks Another
“This is a case where, in keeping one rule, a man breaks another,” commented Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Whakatane yesterday when dealing with a Transport Department charge of speeding against Anselm John Howarth, service car driver, whqse speed had been checked by Traffic -Inspector Sharpe at 48,. the maximum allowable for the vehifcle being 35(. Howarth explained that he was trying to make up time to make connections, and .in answer to the Magistrate, said it was a fact that the Transport Department required the services to keep a timetable. He was convicted and discharged, ordered to pay mileage' only, 2s.
