Obituary
MR H. E. STUBBS Probably one of the most popular men in this district, Mr Henry Edwin Stubbs of Hawera Street, Whakatane, died on Wednesday. Born at Timaru 72 years ago, Mr Stubbs spent his early days in the sheepfarming, industry,and came to this coast as a sheep station manager in the Gisborne district. He was later farming there and at Waitomo on his own account and in partnership with a brother. Then he went into stock agency work, and represented the .Gisborne Sheepfarmers’ Frozen Meat and Mercantile Agency Co. at Opotiki before moving to Whakatane 25 years ago as district agent for the Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Co. He retained that position until his comparatively recent retirement, after which he devoted a lot of his time to the welfare of the Whakatane Golf Club, of which he was hon. secretary and green superintendent up to the time of his death,” and was largely responsible for bringing the course to its present high standard. His widow, three sons and a daughter Survive him.
