IMPORTED SOW OF NEW BLOOD AT SPRING-GLEN
A recent acquisition of special interest to pig breeders in this, district, is that of an imported sow of new bjood lines. Purchased by Messrs Bunyan and Sullivan for their “Spring-Glen” Stud,, she is carrying a valuable litter, some of which will be available at their next annual dispersal sale. She is from a litter of 11, and of 8 reared pigs which weighed 1311bs at three weeks and 3741bs at two months. She is a grand sow of splendid type and quality, and is well worth inspection. Her dam was bred by Mr J. B. Spence and Son in Canada, where she gained many prizes, and the first litter in New Zealand gained her a V.H.C. She is from a litter of 12 reared and was second in the Toronto Royal Show, being beaten by her dam who was Senior and Grand Champion and rates in Canada for advanced registering in Canadian herd book. Her sire “Willow Lodge Baron” has also an interesting pedigree, being from a sow which is considered top sow in Willow Bodge. Her litter at the Canadian National Exhibition took Ist, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and sth for boars and Ist and 2nd for sows, also first for get of sire. His sire was an American imported boar. This young sow would be an asset in any stud, and her offspring should do much to uphold the reputation for quality of Canadian Berkshires, for which this district is justly credited. Any breeders interested are advised, to ,contact Mr Bunyan or the N.Z. : Loan and Merc. Co., where a copy of extended pedigree is obtainable, and can then see for themselves the proven production quality and type combined in this sow.P.B.A.
