Buyers operating on behalf of Japan will be active in New Zealand in the wool season just starting, says the New Zealand Wool Board. This follows the visit to New Zealand a few months ago of Mr Max B. Laupheimer, whose mission was to arrange for a supply of New Zealand wool for Japan, through the Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers. Mr Laupheimer left the Dominion without making any statement, but S.C.A.P., has now announced that buying procedures have been established in New Zealand and clearahces wilth all interested New Zealand Government agencies have been obtaind. Wool purchases for Japan will be made through the agency of regular buyers. The woollen textile industry in Japan is expected to revive rapidly in th enext few months, and indications are that it will be operating at 65 per cent of capacity by October. Consuming capacity will exceed 200,000 bales a year. South Africa has of recent months made strong bids to sell more wool to Japan and .in July was that .country’s largest supplier, with Australia second and South America third.
