Farewell To District Nurse At Waimana

Members of the St John Nursing Division, Waimana, arranged a farewell afternoon recently for Nurse McKay. There was quite a large gathering Of Division members, Cadets'* and many other friends. During the afternoon items were given and a competition arranged by Mrs Henderson, “Find a Poem” was won- by Mrs J. Boynton. . - The Drama Club presented a play “The Veiled Menace,” which was well received. Members ofl the Glee Club acted a musical mime, “Riding Down, to Bangor.” • Miss Currie sang two songs most , delightfully, “Salaam.” and “The Wind.” After a delicious afternoon tea, Mrs Wylde called on Nurse McKay to. accept a lovely bouquet of flowers and a gift from ‘ the Nursing Division, in appreciation of , what she had done for them, during their time of training and since. , Nurse McKay had been their Superintendent for quite a number of years and she would be greatly missed by them all. Mrs Wylde wished Nurse McKay all the best of good fortune in her new district, Ekatahuna. Then Katherine Ws#:dlaw, on behalf of the Cadets, with a neat speech presented Nurse McKay with a fountain pen with their best wishes. Mrs Hewitt, on behalf of the general public, asked the guest to accept a crystal sugar basin, wishing her the best of luck. Nurse McKay most feelingly replied, and said it was hard to have to say good-bye, but she knew; her time was up as District Nurse here and at Taneatua for the past ten' years. She was sure the new Nurse would be a great help to the district. She thanked the Division for the ink-stand and all others for the lovely gifts, which were greatly appreciated. ' , Mrs Potter, on behalf of the school teachers and pupils thanked Nurse McKay for her help to the pupils in many ways, and was sure they would miss her greatly as she was a real friend to them. All joined in singing “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow” and “AulcL Lang Syne.”
