Whakatane Lyceum Club Enthusiastically Re-Opened
There was a well-attended and enthusiastic gathering at 'the Red Cross rooms to discuss the re-forma-tion of the Whakatane Lyceum Club. Mrs S. C. Spence, the past president, presided. Numerous apologies for absence were received and approximately 30 names handed in of those desirous of becoming members. Mrs Spence outlined briefly the position of the club at the time of going into recess, and also the advantages of having a Women’s Club in the district. After general discussion, it was unanimously decided to re-open the Lyceum Club in the rooms offered by the Red Cross Society. It was also decided that foundation members (those joining the club before December 31, 1948) would not be required to pay an entrance fee. 1 \ Election of officers:— President, Mrs E. T. Dawson; vicepresident, Mrs G. Otley; secretary and treasurer, Mrs S. C. Spence; Icommittee, Mesdam.es A. E. Hawken, F. Sumner, H. M. Dewar, L..Littlejohn, N. Carter, L. D. Lovelock, R. E. Blair and Miss E. Howell; Drama Circle convener, Mrs Littlejohn; Musical Circle convener, Mrs Blair; Bridge Circle convener, Mrs Otley. All members desirous of joining these circles are to get in touch with the convener or the secretary. It was decided to hold a) social afternoon on the 2nd Friday of each month, members to bring a small plate for afternoon tea. The club’s opening function to be held on October 18. ■
