RANGITAIKI PLAINS GRADING BEST YET During , the past season the Rangitaiki Plains Dairy factory manufactured 5309 tons 9cwt. 2 qrs. 51bs. of creamery butter compared with 4934 tons 12cwt. 3qrs. 261bs. for the previous year, according to the directors’ report presented to' the annual meeting of shareholders yesterday. There were 737 suppliers, compared with 717 for the 1946-47 season. The factory received 24,610,373.51 b cream which were graded as follows: Superfine 72.02 per cent., first grade 27.7 0 per cent. 7 and second grade .28 per cent. Additions to buildings included two new dwellings at Awakeri, and a new boiler house at the factory. The main items of plant purchased were two new Babcock and Wilcox Water Tube Boilers, each with a capacity of 6,8001bs of steam per hour, a Mojonnier Cooler, and an A.P.V. Heat Exchanger. The total expenditure on plant was £19.,475 10s. Nett return for the season from the pig farm was £2,332 9s lid, representing approximately 8/9|-d per ton of butter. . The factory store turnover for the year was £146,734 13s lid, an increase of £37,857 6s 4d on the previous year. Rebates at a rate of 6 per cent on all purchases, were paid to suppliers and amounted to £7,187
lls. Mr Perkins and members of his staff have made an all-out effort to give service and to increase the turnover. The results should be a source of satisfaction to suppliers and staff. The report of the 1946-47 season indicated a season average payout over all grades including Farm Cost Allowance of 22.043 d per lb. In addition, the retrospective payment of 1.716 d from November 1946 to June 1947 was paid out; this being the equivalent of 1.209 d -over the whole season . and making the total payment' 23.252 d. Farm cost allowance of 5.185 d per lb butterfat was claimed on butterfat supplied in July 1947, and the amount received was included in advance payment to suppliers. As from August 1, 1947, the farm cost allowance when. all costs were incorporated was discounted in the 1947-48 price structure. During this season an average advance of 23.649 d per lb butterfat was paid over all grades. A further Id per lb butterfat over all grades was paid for the 12 months ended June 30, 1948. Ip addition, the farm cost allowance received for July 1948 butterfat, and the retrospective payment of 1.716$ which included July 1948 butterfat, were paid to suppliers; these payments being the equivalent of .072 d per lb butterfat and .023 d per lb butterfat respectively. The amount standing to the credit of the Appropriation Account will allow a further payment of 1.83 d per lb butterfat. The total payments for the season will therefore be as follows: Butterfat Advance (average) 23.649 d, Farm Cost Allowance July 1947 .072 d, Retrospective Payment July 1947 ,023 d, Deferred Payment (July 1947 to June 1948) I.OOOd, Deferred Payment (was made 20/8/48 1,83 d, Store Rebate .177 d, a total of 26.751 d.
Average grade for the season was 93.801 as against 93.694 for r the previous season, and a record for the company. Hearty congratulations are extended to Mr J. J. Becker, Factory Manager, and members of his staff for their outstanding performance in securing third place for the Weddell Cup. The election held during 1947 re-, suited in Messrs lan B. Gow and C. R. Wilson being again returned to the Board, and in Mr C. F. Eivers being elected to the Board of Directors. It has not been necessary to hold an election during 1948 as tfye sitting members, Messrs D. S. Radcliffe and S. C. Spence were returned to the Board without opposition.
