Whakatane Delegate Gets Seat, On N.Z. Gun Club’s Executive
At the monthly committee, meeting of the County Rod and Gun Club held at Taneatua on Tuesday, Mr W. C. Davies, club delegate to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Gun Clubs’ Association held in Christchurch on July 27, reported that he had been elected to one of the five seats on the North Island Executive, and had also been successful in obtaining the 1949 North Island Single Rise Clay Bird Championship for the club. The President, Mr J. D. Rivett, on behalf of the committee and mem-
bers thanked and congratulated Mr Davies on his successful effort for the club, pointing out that it would be of great assistance to have Mr Davies on the Executive, and such an important event as the North. Island Championship would attract shooters to visit Whakatane from all parts of the North Island. The president in referring to the club shoot to be held on the 'club grounds, Paroa, on Sunday, stated that the club was definitely all out to cater for the novice shooter by putting on the Novice Championship and making other events available for entry to them. Alpo the veterans (50 years of age and over) would be able to compete for the Hanright Trophy a silver tankard with a shooting scene engraved. The president also stated that two new cups had recently been offered tothe club for competition by Mr J. Plamus and Mr W. C. Davies.
