Edgecumbe Resident Dies Following Hunting Fall

Mr Richard Francis (Dick) Heckling, butcher, aged 31, of Edgecumbe, died at Tauranga Hospital on Sunday night following a fall during the Bay of Plenty-Rotorua Hunt Club’s hunt at Paengaroa, near Te Puke, on Saturday. Mr Heckling’s horse screwed in taking a hedge, and threw the rider, who was unconscious when other followers of the hunt got to him. Mr H. W. Sharp, of Whdkatane, drove the injured man out to the road and to Te Puke, where he was attended by Dr L. Randell before being taken on to Tauranga. Deceased, who came from Ngaruawahia, -had been working at Edgecumbe for about 18 months.
