What Rationing Saved

Strange as it may seem, the sale of tea has fallen off since rationing came off, Mr E. A. Ramson told ' Whakatane Rotarians in a short talk Mast week. He attributed that to the fact that people who had accumulated stocks over the rationing period were not buying until what they ' had in their cupboards ran out. Dealing with the coupon business in general, he detailed the extra work involved for the grocer in balancing his coupons against his stock, but said the actual saving in consumption by rationing had been considerable. Tea consumption had been -reduced by 20 per cent, butter by over 60 per cent and sugar by 50 per cent.
