New School Tests Give Children Second Chance
Education authorities all over the country are watching an examination experiment in which children at about thirty Walsall (Staffs) elementary and private schools are taking part. A week before the exam the children get a practice test and teachers explain the methods. In the actual exam they are handed a book of questions prepared by a psychologist. With a pencil they strike out false words or underline correct ones; they pair diagrams and patterns. And in case any of them have not done their best because of nerves they get a second chance later on. Mr V. G. Moore, Walsall's director of education, said recently: "The new exam does away with heavy swotting, which can be harmful, a few weeks before the exam."
