Whatatutu Cup Goes Home: Waimana Seniors Defeated At Waimana under ideal Rugby conditions last week-end, Waimana lost the Whatatutu Cup to Whatatutu by 14 points to 9. Waimana juniors beat Whatatutu juniors 14—3. Both games were exciting, and drew a crowd representing Waimana, Nukuhou, Taneatua and Whatatutu. Three clubs are eligible to challenge for the Whatatutu Cup, Waimana, Ruatoria and Whatatutu. The senior match was full of interest. The first score, secured by Waimana, was a try by "Bully" and soon after C. Wi-Rangi for Whatatutu scored a nice try under the goal posts, but the kick-failed. Grant Mitchell, with a good run through, scored again for Waimana, but from then on Whatatutu had the home team bustled. The visitors' passing was most accurate. J. Charters was quite an outstanding player for Whatatutu. "Waimana tried hard to cross the line again, but failed. A nice penalty goal was kicked by Boy Tipu for the home team. Scorers:— Waimana (9): G. Mitchell a try, "Bully" a try, Boy Tipu a penalty goal. Whatatutu (14): C. Wi-Rangi, 3 tries, J. Charters, 1 try, McNeil, a conversion. The referee was Mr Sunny Smith, Opotiki.' At the conclusion of the Cup game, Mr Potter, President of the Waimana Football Club, congratulated Whatatutu on their win, and said Waimana would look forward to going to Whatatutu next season if possible to try to bring the trophy back. Mr Potter then called on the Whatatutu captain to accept the cup. The curtain-raiser was between the Whatatutu juniors, and Waimana juniors, the home team winning by 14—3. Both teams played a most keen game throughout. Scorers:— Waimana (14): V. Fleming, 2 tries, B. Wardlaw, 1 try, D. Anderson, a try and a conversion. Whatatutu (3): N. Marshall, a penalty goal. Mr John Brown was referee. Rotorua Juniors Win Shalfoon Shield f*- . On Saturday, the Rotorua juniors accomplished something that has not been done very-often before in the Bay of Plenty Rugby—won the Shalfoon Shield and thus gave of their sub-union the privilege of holding the three championship shields. for the Bay of Plenty. The' Rotorua forwards worked hard and. gave their backs a feast of the ball. At one; stage Rotorua was leading by 13 points, to ?nil, but towards the end of the" game Tauranga began to pile on* points and apeared likely '/"to retain the shield. Rotorua finished only two points ahead. •.' • ...'■• ■£..■', Rangitaiki Rugby Draw Cup finals will be the draw for Rugby fans in the "Rangitaiki^Sub-, Union's area, tomorrow. \. -., Thornton and meet in the final for the Lion Cup at 1230 p\m., and Te Teko and Otakiri in the Duff Clip final at 2 p.m. Both matches will be played at Te Teko'.
