Possible Site For Aerodrome
PRELIMINARY. MOVE FOR RESERVATION A site which the Whakatane Aerodrome Committee thinks might be suitable for a landing ground has been located about Zh miles from Thornton beyond the golf course and 6 to 7 miles from Whakatane. Immediate steps are to be taken to see if it can be reserved for that purpose. That information was given to the Borough Council on Monday night by the chairman of the committee, Mr R. T. Morpeth, wherj the aero T drome question was raised for discussion by Cr W. Sullivan’s announcement that the Auckland-Wel-lington air service through Rotorua was due to start next month. Cr Morpeth said the Aerodrome Committee had met twice last week, and had located the site referred to, which was considered •• better than anything that had been proposed yet. The question of ownership was under investigation, with a view to having the land reserved. In view of the early establishment of the Auckland-Wellington air line, the Council decided to send an urgent letter away to the Department concerned asking what it proposes to do about a feeder link for this district.
