Those Were The Days!

A local resident left at our office a clipping cut from a Dunedin paper of some 30 to 40 years ago containing an advertisement listing prices for footwear, which certainly bears out the statement “those were the days” so often heard at the present time. Boot and shoe prices are set out in the advertisement as follows: Neat dress Balmorals 5/11, extra quality 7/9; strong working boots (nailed and plated) 7/6, extra strong 8/11; chrome dress boots 10/6; tan dress boots 9/11; warm felt slippers 1/6; fancy carpet slippers (linoleum soles) 1/6, leather soles 5/6; thigh gum boots 21/-; patent eevning shoes 5/9; walking shoes 6/9; clogs from 7/9; Bluchers 4/6, extra quality 5/6. ’ The last two mentioned lines were very popular. Boys’ and youths’ shoes were selling at from 5/11 to 6/11 per pair.
