The Bay of Plenty Boxing Championships are to be held in Whakatane on August 28 under the auspices of the Whakatane Boxing SubAssociation. The tournament is to be an open one, which means that boxers from other Associations may compete in the events. These decisions were made at a general meeting of the Sub-Association on Thursday night. A letter from the Internal Affairs Department advised that the grant applied for by the Sub-Association for the purchase of more boxing gear and for the furthering of the sport in the district, had been granted and £2OO had been forwarded. . Mr S. Whitworth and Mr B. Mage# were duly installed in their new positions, Mr Whitworth as a member of the management committee, and Mr Magee as secretary. Mr J. A. T. Henry and Mr Stewart have resigned from the executive. _ * Mr Henry is to receive a letter expressing the Sub-Association’s regret at his resignation and appreciation of his work for boxing in the district.

A decision to open the membership to the limit of 50 was made. At present there are 26 active members. On this decision several new members were nominated- and approved.
