Keep It Dark Keep milk in a dark place. If left standing in direct sun, even in cold weather, milk loses some of its flavour and vitamins. To Warm A Bed When putting a waterbottle in the bed make a “tent” of the bedclothes either with the bottle itself or with a stick. heat can then circulate instead of just warming one spot. For Longer Wear To get longer wear from your silk or nylon stockings, try these suggestions. Wash new hose before wearing. Make suds of alkali jfreesoap and squeeze through the stocking. Never rub or use bar soap directly on them. To remove excess water, roll the stockings in a dry towel, and then hang up to dry by the tip of the heel.
To Remove Scorch If linen scorches when being ironed immediately place a damp cloth over it and iron well. The mark will usually come off the linen on to the damp cloth. To Prove It Linen Or Cotton To distinguish linen from cotton, moisten the fingertips and press against the underside. If pure linen it will wet through at once; if cotton, the moisture will spread slowly and irregularly. To Skin Tomatoes The easiest and best way to skin tomatoes is to impale them on a fork and hold for a few minutes over a flame. The skin comes off in a few seconds and the flavour is also better. Discard Dusters When- polishing floors, apply polish with a pad made from newspapers, with a piece of wax paper on top. This saves dusters and also polish as the paper does not absorb it. Varnishing Tip Here is a hint for housewives who are planning to do some varnishing. Varnish is applied more easily and dries much faster when the can is placed in a pan of hot water while it is being used. To Remove Gabardine Shine Simply place the garment right side up on your ironing board, and lay a piece of dry, soft flannel over it. Then on top of this lay two' layers of dampened chesecloth and press with a hot iron. Then iron the wrong side of the garment.
