New Zealand Books For New Zealand Children

A feature of the 1948 Children’s Book Week .will be the presentation of the Esther Glen Memorial Medal for the most distinguished contribution, to children’s literature in New Zealand. This medal . has been awarded to A. W. Reed for his “Myths and Legends of Maoriland.” It was first awarded in 1945 to Miss Stella Morice for “The Book of Wiremu.” It is hoped that the standard of publication of children’s books will justify the awarding of the medal every year. There has lately been a cry for more New Zealand books for New Zealand children.
