Reduction In Road Accidents To Pre-School Children Last Year
Of the 53 children under school . age involved in traffic accidents in 1947, one was killed. This shows a -considerable reduction compared - with the two killed and 75 injured during 1946. Traffic accidents in 1947, where n - school pupil was injured were slightly more numerous than in 1946, both among pedestrians and among cyclists. The casualties, with 1946 figures in parentheses, were as follows: Pedestrians 8 (8) killed, and. 158 (151) injured; cyclists 4 (6) killed and 203 (181) injured. “Although in relation to the number of motor vehicles there has been little or no increase in the number of acidents to children, these are the saddest of all road accidents,” •said the Commissioner of Transport, Mr G. L. Laurenson. “These are ?still far too high.”
