Basic Limitations
Do you remember how, during the war, Mr Churchill gave Basic English his blessing? One of the things that impressed him was the Basic version of the Atlantic Charter! But Basic English has its limitations. They became apparent when an attempt was made to translate Mr Churchill’s war speeches into the new “universal language.” All that Basic could do for “blood, sweat and tears” was “blood, body water and eyewash.”
