“BROWN BOMBER” MAKES THE GRADE: WALCOTT K.O.’d

“Jersey Joe” Walcott took the full count in the eleventh round ■ of his world title fight with “Brown Bomber” Jofe Louis. Up to that stage of the piece it seemed to be anybody’s fight. In. fact, those with their money on Walcott thought they had a fair chance of collecting early in the round that settled the affair,' when 4 Walcott waded in with a barrage that seemed to have the champion worried. Louis, taking a few tough punches, had covered up and sought a clinch: Breaking, he stepped back, then, came in with a long left followed by a right cross, which hazed his opponent and made him victim for the deadly right that finished the bout. Up to that point there was not a big margin either way. Louis was floored for a count of one in round three, but came back to have his : opponent in bad trouble in the fifth. Thereafter the title holder settled down to score points, but was definitely on the receiving end at the beginning of the decisive round. The punch that settled the laurel crown firmly on the “Brown Bomber’s” head was in his best tradition —a right packed with the dynamite that has laid low the asiprations of many a contender since Louis first assumed the title. t|'
