Grocery Lines Run Low Through Ship Shortage
The Whakatane housewife this week is being hard pressed 'to find just what she wants in the grocer’s •shops about town. Many a time ■she has had to take “No” for an answer to her query, “Have you -any ?” It appears that owing to the removal of the m.v. Otimai from the Whakatane-Auckland run recently the town has been getting shorter and shorter of a lot of goods in the grocery line. This is due to there being no boat on the run except manure and petrol boats. The Northern Steamship Company, which does the majority of the East Coast shipping, is at present a bit low on ships, having the “Toa” up for annual survey and the “Otimai” off the run altogether. Relief from these shortages is expected this week-end with the arrival of the m.v. “Clansman,” which has just been put back on the run.
