Those who are orphaned are countless. Appalling numbers have been crippled by war or disease. In Europe, only one child in every three has escaped T.B. Even babies yet unborn are doomed to die—unless all the world helps. There is yet hope if the world acts swiftly; and all the countries of the world are collecting funds now. The quarter- million given by the New Zealand Government has all been expended on New Zealand products. The latest figures on available supplies guarantee that* another half-million, if we can raise it, can be turned into milk foods, fish-liver oil, wool, and other high-priority-supplies which we can buy in New Zealand now and during the months to come. None of these things will affect our Aid to Britain; and none requires refrigerated shipping space. Beyond all doubt the supplies will be shipped. Some have already gone. And when they arrive you can count on their efficient distribution. You can count on the security measures which will be taken to safeguard them. Are there any doubts left? Yes—we doubt If the utmost we can do will ever be enough. The job itself is so big. The need is so appalling. But let us do the best we can. And let us do it NOW.
