Damage By Flood REPORT RELEASED FOR PUBLICATION
Following requests by Cr H. G. Warren, backed by Cr W. Sullivan, at Monday night’s Borough Council meeting that the special report of the Borough foreman-engineer, Mr W. S. Henderson, concerning damage in the April flood be published, the document has been released to the. Press, and a summary will appear in the next Monday’s issue of the Beacon. It is now also revealed that the Council considered the report at a special meeting early this month, when Messrs O. G. Thornton, District Engineer, Hamilton, and Mr Thompson, resident engineer, Tauranga, of the Public Works Department, were present. Schemes provided for' in the report are estimated to cost a total of £38,000, of which approximately £25,000 is provided for the purchase of land and tree planting, leaving a balance of £13,000 of which it was estimated that the Council’s share would be approximately £5,000. Mr Thornton said that, when he had fully considered the report as submitted by the Council’s foreman-engineer, and after receiving Mr Thompson’s report on various aspects of the scheme, he would then consult the Main Highways Board, the Soil Conservation and Rivers Centro! Council, and the Native Department with the view .to ascertaining what share of the cost would bo 'borne* by each department. He would then report to the Council.
