World’s Milk Production Record Again Broken By English-Bred Friesian

On March 1, 1948, Mr and Mrs R. A. Pierson, of Moortown Farm, Ringwood, Hants, entertained visitors in celebration of the completion of the record breaking lactation by their pedigree British Friesian, “Bridge Birch.” “Bridge Birch” broke the world record, previously held by the American cow, “Carnation Ormsby Fayne,” which stood at 41,9431bs of milk in a year on January 26. Up to March 1 “Bridge Birch” has brought her ■ production figure to 45,0811bs of milk in 365 days. On May 1, 1947, “Bridge Birch” had an officially recorded production of 1341bs of milk, which progressively increased until on May 4 it reached 155 Jibs, beating the previous best comparative ‘ figure of 149Jlbs, a record that has stood since 1933.

This world record breaking milk was bred by Mr A. C. Willy, Bridge Farm, South Petherdon, Somerset, and sold as a two-year-old to Mr Pierson in 1944. Mr Willy a few months ago sold 10 incalf heifers to the Egyptian Government for 200 guineas each.
