Over £50,000,000 Loaned To Ex-Service Personnel Since Scheme Started

More than £50,000,000 have been authorised in rehabilitation loans to ex-servicemen and women. Latest figures, as at the end of April, show that 62,255 applicants have been granted loans amounting in value to £50,522,440. Total outlay on rehabilitation at the same date was more than £67,000,000. During April there were 1476 fresh authorisations totalling in value £1,161,481. With 78 farm loans in April the total under that head was brought to 4794 valued at £19,601,348. This included 578 men settled under the Land Settlement Scheme.

At the end of April, about 34,000 ex-servicemen had received direct housing assistance in some form through the Rehabilitation Board.

Other forms of loan assistance were: Business loans, for April 116 (£89,526), to date 6056 (£3,740,245); free-of-interest loans to purchase furniture, for April 755 (£71,554), to date 29,184 (£2,684,914); free-of-in-terest loans to purchase tools of trade, for April date 1218 (£39,960; miscellaneous other advances, for April none, to date 312 (£67,980).

Apart from those included above is a considerable number of Maori ex-servicemen who have been assisted through the Maori Rehabilitation Finance Committee and under the Native Land and Housing Acts.
