Waimana W.I. Member To Have Original Poem Published In Magazine

It was announced at the monthly meeting of the Waimana Women’s Institute held recently in the Waimana Hall that the' poem “Night,”, written by Mrs Hewitt, will appear in “Home and country” in July. Mrs J. Mitchell gave her report on the Drama meeting and she gave a glowing account of the life of Miss Jerome Spencer, the founder of the Woman’s Institute in New Zealand, the first Institute being formed at Rissington, Hawke’s Bay. <

Several members who went on the Instittue tour to Russell and Kaitaia last month, gave an interesting report of the journey. A competition, Action Guessing, arranged by Mrs Looney, produced bright entertainment. The Roll Call, “A Book I Recommend,” was well responded to. Final arrangements were made for the social dance in aid of W.I. funds.

The judges for the day’s competitions were Mrs J. Mitchell and Mrs Martin. The results follow: Best single flower: Mrs F. Bell 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs H. Bell 3. Best muliple flower: Mrs H. Bell 1, Mrs Lex McDonald 2, Mrs F. Bell 3.

Best vegetable: Mrs F. Bell 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs C. N. White 3. Cheese scones: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs Stevenson 2, Mrs King 3. Machine-made apron: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs I. Savage 2, Mrs F. Bell 3. Manawahe W.I. The Manawahe Women’s Institute held its June meeting last Thursday. The meeting, presided over by Mrs Bowden, had only a small attendance. The roll call, “Childish ailments and their cures,” brought forth many handy and simple remedies. Mesdames Baldwin, and Goldsmith served a dainty afternoon tea bringing a happy afternoon to a close. Competition results:— Best flower: Mrs Baldwin 1, Mrs M. Logan 2. Best shrub: Mrs Bowden 1. Machine-made apron: Mrs Bowden 1, Mrs Mikklesen 2.
