Improvements At Hospital

WORKS COMMITTEE SCHEME ADOPTED Works Committee recommendations covering improvements to the ambulance entrance, nurses’ accommodation, paths and men’s wash room at the Whakatane District Hospital were adopted by the Bay of Plenty Hospital Board’s monthly meeting yesterday.

A new shelter was projected for the ambulance entrance to the Hospital so that the patients could be handled under shelter in rough or rainy weather. An architects plan provided for a canopy of a cantilever type. *

The next item was the linoleum in the Maternity Annexe which since laid has not been a great success. It was decided to write to the company concerned in laying it and request an expert’s advice on the matter.

The pathway from, the Nurses’ Home to the main institution was always troubled by flooding during the wet weather and the works committee recommended two concrete runners 3” high from the Home to the main building, with shingle filling between. Heating arrangements for the tutorial block were drafted and it was decided to instal two / steam heaters in the block.

A new laundry machine has been installed and it is claimed that one efficient operator can turn out 20 complete uniforms an hour. The Sub-Matron, Miss G. M. Oliver, is to be sent to an Auckland Hospital to familiarise herself with the operation of the machine there which is of similar type. Considerable concern was felt by the Board regarding the condition of the main road entrance to the Hospital and it was stated that representations to the Borough Engineer had so far come to nothing. The Board decided to approach .the Borough Council again.
