MATAMATA RATES INCREASED
Unanimously the Matamata County Council decided at the May meeting to increase.the general rate for the coming year by |d in the £. During a discussion on the estimates members emphasised that the pre-war rate actually represented more of the farmers’ produce than the same rate did today. It also represented far more metal on the roads and in view of this it was impossible to carry out satisfactorily the proposed new schedule of works at present-day costs with a pre-war rate.
