WHAT LIES BEFORE US?
Sir,—As far back as 1946, I endeavoured to picture the fate of humanity at the hands of the then drilling armies, some of whom are now fighting in Palestine and the Communists, then referred to as Russia’s secret service, had the world surrounded.
We are living in a world of political jealousy and greed. It is very much to me like a story of a dead Irishman: The funeral arrives at the cemetery, the coffin is placed in position to be lowered into the grave, but no Minister arrives to read the burial service. The undertaker looks around for someone to say a few words. He sights Murphy, the pig buyer, and calls on-him. Murphy steps forward and with his blackthorn stick taps the coffin, saying, “Here we are, there he is, where he is going nobody knows and nobody cares, lower the hero and throw on the dirt.”
Nobody knows or nobpdy cares as to humanity’s fate. , My humble appeal for a more brotherly feeling has been considerably enlarged upon by the great American Cardinal in a farewell message to New Zealand. To him we New Zealanders owe a deep sense of gratitude, as he paid particular attention to New Zealanders and Australians. It would .be safe to say, he was conveying the feelings of the American people to us, a peace-loving people living a /free life that the world could well adopt.
As a Roman Catholic he warned us of the evils of today and placed his finger on Enemy No. 1 now disrupting our destiny. We cannot ask the Supreme Power to help us unless we make some attempt to help ourselves. Churches, mothers, fathers and our schools have all a part to play* but our Enemy No. 1 must be dealt with right now. Yours etc., P .MORA.
