MacKENZIE-LUTTRELL WEDDING: BRIDE IN EMBOSSED CLOQUE

A very pretty wedding was solemnised at St. George’s Anglican Church, Whakatane, on Saturday, May 22, when Bathia Howie Rodbourne, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs Allan Luttrell, of Waimana, was married to lan James, elder son of Mrs and the late Mr W. J. MacKenzie, of Ohura, King Country. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a beautiful gown of white embossed cloque, high neckline and cut on classical lines falling in a short train at the back. The sleeves were finished with tiny self buttons and pointed over the hands and the back of the bodice was also finished with a row of selfcovered buttons to the waist line. She wore a heavily embroidered tulle veil which fell to a longer train than the frock and was held in place by a coronet of orange blossom. She carried a bouquet of white chrysanthemums, roses, maid-en-hair and lycopodium fern. Her sister, . Miss H. Luttrell, bridesmaid, wore a frock of lemon Swiss organdie, figured with tiny flowers of scarlet, blue and green. This was cut with a low waistline, the bodice and cross-over . full sleeves trimmed with pleating arid the full skirt gathered at the waistline to give a bustle effect at the back. She carried a bouquet of yellow chrysanthemums in two tones and fern.

The bridegroom was assisted by his brother, Mr D. MacKenzie as best man, and the officiating minister was the Rev J. C. J. Wilson.

After the ceremony a large reception was held in the Parish Hall. A very beautiful three-tier wedding cake was set in the middle of the bridal table which was laid with a lace, cloth, an heirloom from Singapore, and the flowers were white chrysanthemums intermingled with fern in silver vases. The tables in the hall were all decorated with variegated holly and scarlet catoneser berries. The toastmaster was the bride’s brother, Mr S. Luttrell. Mrs Luttrell received her guests wearing a brown ensemble, brown off-the-face felt hat with veil and a coat to tone in mixed brown flecked tweed and carried a bouquet of autumn tinted chrysanthemums,.

Mrs MacKenzie wore a wine-wool coat, showing a royal blue frock with black hat and accessories and carried a bouquet of light purple stock and asparagus fern. The bride travelled in a chocolate modern ensemble of brown boucle, a halo felt hat in brown, trimmed with an effective corded felt bow and narrow brim trimmed with light coloured fur, carrying over the arm a brown felt handbag richly trimmed with fur to tone.

The young couple will make their future home in the King Country, where the bridegroom is engaged in sheep farming:
