RED CROSS CENTRE’S ANNUAL REPORT: SURCENTRES ALL ACTIVE
Following is the report, to be presented to the annual meeting of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Centre of the Red Cross Society next week:— “The end of the financial year finds us with our full quota of subcentres all active, though hampered somewhat as to meetings by the polio epidemic. Sewing for the Save the Children Campaign has been the main activity, resulting in six cases of over 1500 garments being despatched, and a further four cases, , containing 747 articles, awaiting despatch at the rooms. All the subcentres have fulfilled all financial obligations, and end the year with funds in hand. “During the year we sent £229 17s 6d to the Waikato Food for Britain Fund. Included in this amount is £3l from the Whakatane Chamber of Commerce, £l6 2s from the Whakatane Rotary Club, and £2l Is from the N.Z. Territorial Association. We are proud to have organisations of such standing supporting the Red Cross. •In addition to the annual quota of £72, all sub-centres have sent donations to H.Q. Funds to the total amount of £BS, thus £25 was forwarded for Relief in China, £lO to Overseas Relief, £75 to the
International Red Cross and £1 to the League of Red Cross Societies. “A new departure was a Conference arranged between neighbouring centres, and held in the Red Cross Rooms, Whakatane, in June- This was attended by delegates from Rotorua, Opotiki, Tauranga, Mount Maunganui, Te Puke and Whakatane. Red Cross matters were fully discussed, and a very welcome in-
terchange of ideas on methods of raising funds was most informative. It is hoped to make this an annual event.
