Galatea Rugby Results: Murupara Team’s Rough Trip To Ruatahuna
Results of Saturday’s matches played under the Galatea Rugby Sub-Union:—
Ruatahuna 3, Murupara 0. Wairapakao 21, Waiohau 6. Galatea 12, Minginui 0. Owing to a misunderstanding the Te Whaiti-Kaingaroa game was not played. Galatea leads in the championship with 10 points, Ruatahuna and Kaingaroa are in second place with 8 points. Both these teams have played one game less than the leaders.
The Murupara team had an eventful trip to Ruatahuna. Owing to road damage they had' to leave their bus in Te Whaiti and proceed by truck. ' Slips, washouts and a flooded stream had to be negotiated and they arrived at 4 p.m. The game was played in 30 minute spells in drizzling rain, and finished in the dark. Though they were beaten their spirits were not damped, and they enjoyed the novelty of their experiences. It was an excellent example of how country boys overcome difficulties in making their own sport.
Playing for Wairapakao against Waiohau Hutter scored 18 points. The King’s Birthday holiday week-end will be a busy one for footballers. Rep. trial games will be played on Saturday sth to enable selector Sonny White to sort out his team to play Rangitaiki at Te Teko on Saturday 19. Present indications are that there will be plenty of good forwards to choose from, but finding suitable backs will not be so easy. A first five-eighth and wing three-quarters will be his particular worries.
Monday 7 is set down for the annual seven-a-side tournament. All clubs will be represented and spectators should see some spectacular football. Most of the local boys are seen at their best in fast open play. All the above games will be played on the Rangitahi ground at Murupara.
