FIGURE THIS OUT AND WIN A GUINEA
There are two guineas at the Beacon office waiting for the first two readers of the paper who can figure out a little mathematical problem correctly. Only conditions are that •competitors must be members of households where the Beacon is regularly delivered, and the first two ■correct answers opened by the editor earn a guinea each. Entries must reach.- the Beacon office, Box 7, by Friday, May 28. Results will be published next Tuesday. Here is the problem:— A bricklayer builds three fences with a stack of bricks. On the first fence he uses 1-3 of the stack plus two bricks. On the second fence he uses \ of the remainder plus one bi'ick. On the third fence he uses £ of the new remainder plus eight bricks. He then finds he has 1000 bricks left. ,
