Whakatane District High School Committee’s New Accommodation Proposals

The Whakatane District High School Committee at its monthly meeting on Wednesday night decided to urge the Education Board to take immediate steps to have the Taneatua School (less one room) removed and set up on a suitable site on the ground under negoation for the new Ohope school. This is to provide the children at Ohope with proper accommodation, as at present they are housed in the Presbyterian Church Hall and in a most unsuitable beach bach. Another accommodation proposal discussed by the committee was the possibility of obtaining the Fenton’s mill school for re-erection on the Primary school grounds. This would relieve the congested state of the primary school. At present there are 197 pupils and five teachers in the infant build-, ing which consists of four rooms and there is a class of 24 children accommodated in the corridor. Even with the new room the school will not be able to give up the use of the Band Room.

The new committee also approved the past .committee’s proposed new site for the construction of the primary school. This site is in Landing Road and is seven acres in area.
