Suspected Polio Case

Small Child Admitted To Whakatane Hospital

Yesterday a suspected case of "poliomyelitis was admitted to the District Hospital from Whakatane. The patient is a child, 3i, who came here from Hawkes Bay 10 days ago.

Mr A, R. Knights, District Health Inspector, said yesterday that precautions would be applied immediately. Children under 16 years of age must not now attend any public gatherings. 'He also re-emphasised the need for scrupulous cleanliness in private homes, care in the preparation and handling of food, and particular vigilance over the tendency some children have to carry anything and everything to their mouths.
