Handling The Flood Menace
Full Survey Of Streams Now In Preparation
This week’s meeting of the' Whakatane Borough Council discussed the recent flood at some length, and decided that some comprehensive scheme to guard against future recurrences should be formulated as soon as possible. Therefore the foreman-engineer, Mr W. S. Henderson, has been instructed to prepare a survey of the whole of the catchments of Wairere, Wai Iti and Wainui Te Whara streams, together with a report and estimate of the cost of restoration of flood damage in the Borough. When that information is before it, the Council hopes to be able to take steps towards effective control of the menace.
